Recreation Committee

Joyce Macphee, Secretary

Tidewater just shifts outdoor activities to indoor activities, so with pen in hand, below is a list of the autumn events now.

Friday, October 5 – This is our first indoor Happy Hour of the season at the Amenity Center beginning at 6 PM and ending at 8 PM. This is the same format as Beach Cabana Night with the Recreation Committee providing all the paper products and cups. We just bring it indoors as our evening light begins to fade and the weather begins to have a nip in it. Come on out for another great evening in Tidewater.

Friday, October 19 – Trivia Night at the Amenity Center is always a pleasurable way to spend an evening. So put a table of 10 together, and sign up for October’s Trivia Night. The doors open at 5 PM so everyone can eat with Trivia beginning at 6 PM. If you don’t have a team of 10, just submit who you have, and you will be placed at a table to complete the team. Those entering teams just need to send in the captain’s name. Submit the information to Harriette Nichols at This email address is being protected from spambots. Tuesday, October 23 – If you were able to travel with Captain Harold when we ventured up to Ocean Isle, you know what fun the boat trip was. This time we will sail down the waterway to Barefoot Landing. There are many restaurants in Barefoot, so you can choose where you would like to eat and make your own reservations or just play it by ear. The round trip ride is just $6 per person with food costs up to you. The boat holds 120 passengers, so be sure to get your reservations in starting on Saturday, September 1. Final boarding times will be announced in the October newsletter, but plan on a late afternoon departure. Please follow the reservations procedure at the end of this column. Looking Ahead:

Friday, November 2 – Tidewater’s monthly Happy Hour begins at 6 PM at the Amenity Center and ends at 8 PM. The Recreation

Committee provides cups and paper products, so just bring an appetizer or dessert for 8 to share. This is a nice way to keep connected with neighbors as the weather turns to the chilly side.

Saturday, November 10 – Dancing for the Troops will begin when the doors open at 5 PM. This year we will continue with the format

that was kicked off in 2016 to make for a more entertaining and enjoyable evening for all. Our program will begin at 5:15 PM with dinner at 6 PM. Dinner will consist of tossed salad (Ranch and Italian dressing), potato salad, ribs, southern fried chicken, scalloped potatoes, mac & cheese, sautéed green beans, baked beans, and dinner rolls with butter. For dessert, there will be strawberry shortcake and peach cobbler with ice cream. Sweet and unsweetened iced tea and regular and decafcoffee will be provided. Please bring any other beverages of your own to drink.

As an added attraction, the Fat Jack Duo will provide Motown and toe-tapping dance

music from 6:30 PM to 9 PM. So, please come prepared to dance the Tidewater night

away.

Yes, there’s more. We will have a silent auction to raise money for the Grand Strand Blue

Star Mothers. For those of you that do not know, this organization provides and sends

many needed items to our troops serving abroad. You may participate in the auction as

much or as little as you would like. Tickets for the AUCTION will be $15 for 12 tickets or

$2 per ticket. 50/50 TICKETS will also be sold at $5 for 6 tickets or $1 per ticket.

The cost for this wonderful evening is only $18 per person. Please follow the reservation

procedure at the end of this article. Don’t delay, this popular event fills up rapidly!

Friday, November 30 – Trim-the-Tree at the Amenity Center begins at 6 PM. Duster

will provide music. The format for this event has been changed with A & A Catering

now providing heavy hors d’oeuvres and desserts. The cost for this event will be just

$5 per person. RESERVATIONS must be made for this event. Please follow the normal

reservation procedure as printed at the end of this article. No reserve seating for this

event will be accepted. Reservations will be accepted after October 15.
